TAG Energy Solutions expands substation capacity

TAG Energy Solutions expands substation capacity

TAG Energy Solutions have expanded its capacities at its Billingham site to increase capacity to deliver a wider range of offshore wind turbine project management and fabrication services.

The firm have significantly increased the size of its load out and assembly areas for the fabrication of substation topsides and jackets.

Part of this development involves creating additional assembly area by levelling what were previously among the longest slip ways in Europe.

The historic yard has now seen 100 years of marine construction, which has evolved from ship building through to oil and gas semi-submersibles, platforms and jackets and now, in the 21st Century is home to the construction of wind turbine foundations, substation topsides and jackets.

It complements one of the industry’s largest fabrication yards for the expected increase in demand for offshore wind substations.

Alex Dawson, Chief Executive of TAG Energy Solutions, said: “There is a need for approximately two to three substations for each 500MW of offshore wind.

“For Round 3 this amounts to a significant requirement for these structures. What TAG Energy Solutions is offering is an experienced partner with significant management expertise in modular construction and excellent facilities based in an ideal location.”

The development enables TAG Energy Solutions to increase its provision to include the engineering, procurement and construction of offshore wind substation topsides as well as a full range of accommodation modules and other minimum facility platforms.

This expansion of the assembly area compliments the main Production and Construction Halls and is the latest development at TAG Energy Solutions’ site following the creation of its multi-million pound production facility in 2011.

Mr Dawson continued: “We have extensive experience in project managing major offshore projects worldwide.

“Collectively, the team have delivered more than one hundred topside structures to the offshore industry and fully understand the budget and schedule demands as well as stringent standards required to meet the renewable industry’s needs.”
