How to succeed at international trade exhibitions – maximising your investment

Participation in international trade exhibitions is a key stage for any exporting business wishing to further develop and expand their overseas reach and sales.

Research shows that despite the growth in e-commerce, social media and digital communications, face-to-face interaction remains a crucial element of the marketing mix and one which continues to drive awareness, sales, loyalty and profit:

  • 76% of visitors make a new buying decision during/after visiting a trade show
  • 93% of business directors and marketers state that face-to-face marketing is the most persuasive channel, delivering the highest ROI of any marketing investment.
  • 81% of directors claim that average order values were 15 times higher following a face-to-face interaction than any other medium

However, maximising precious company resources and investment whilst participating at an international trade exhibition can be challenging.

In collaboration with 12th Man Solutions, DIT North East, as part of the ERDF funded ‘Expanding North East Presence in Overseas Markets’ project have designed an interactive workshop to assist companies overcome hurdles and challenges; avoid common mistakes and ensure they make the best use of their time and resources. The workshop is focussed on companies

  • wishing to exhibit at an international trade show for the first time or
  • who have experience already, but are keen to improve their performance and return on investment at future international trade shows

The workshop will comprise of three interlinked modules;

  • Preparing and Planning: which show? Messaging, logistics, marketing your attendance, selecting the best team
  • Implementation: effective use of time, identifying different types of visitors, maximising media attendance, networking etc
  • Evaluation and Follow-up: categorising leads effectively, actioning contacts, evaluating results

On completion of the workshop delegates will understand how to prepare better; and implement and evaluate trade event plans to drive a return on their investment and subsequent business growth.
