RWE Innogy is one of Europe's largest and fastest-growing renewables generating companies. The company pools the renewable energy expertise of the RWE Group. Offshore wind power projects are one of the key focus areas of the company's activities.
RWE Innogy has existing offshore wind farm projects at North Hoyle, Rhyl Flats off the Welsh coast and Thornton Bank in Belgium. At the present time, RWE Innogy is building offshore wind power plants thoughout Europe with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW on its own or together with partners. The company aims to obtain permits for additional offshore wind projects of a total of 5,000 MW by 2014.

Sites under construction include Gwynt y Môr which is one of the largest in construction anywhere in Europe. Onshore construction is already well underway, with offshore works to take place in Liverpool Bay. The wind farm is due to be fully operational by the end of 2014. Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm is under construction, a joint venture with Scottish and Southern Energy .the project involves the installation of 140 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines.. Also under construction is the Nordsee Ost (NSO) offshore wind farm around 30 kilometres to the north-east of the island of Helgoland in the German North Sea region.

RWE Innogy invests around one billion Euro each year in the development of renewable energy technology in Europe. Approximately 70% of these funds is used for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms. Sites in development include Atlantic Array, Dogger Bank, Galloper, Innogy Nordsee 1 2 & 3, Triton Knoll and Tromp Binnen.
