It’s well documented that an anticipated increase in Oil & Gas asset retirement and decommissioning (AR&D) activity is expected, over the coming years, globally.

The reduction of the oil price caused some development projects to be shelved, creating a shift in focus to asset life extension and asset retirement. To a certain extent some decommissioning projects have also been shelved as the operators don’t have the funds available in the current climate.

The focus on AR&D requires a change in operating models and working practices along with the development of new and different skill. Those involved will need an understanding and awareness of all phases and activities necessary to decommission an asset safely, efficiently, with no harm to the environment and complying with all international and regional regulations.

Don’t think it is all about dismantling and disposal! AR&D impacts on all business areas of the operator / asset management and includes the complete supply chain. Business Development, Tax, Legal, Commercial, HSEQ, Engineering and Operations all have their part to play and need to understand what is involved throughout the complete process and how decisions made at departmental level impact upon the outcome of the decommissioning project.

Workshop objectives

The workshop will identify and discuss activities and works scopes, focusing on your specific capabilities, to identify where you fit into the supply chain and how to position yourself to win new business.

By the end of the workshop you will understand the complexities and phases of late life operations and asset decommissioning. The aim is to help you identify opportunities to suit your business capabilities. The latter part of the event will include group discussion to help you in the following areas:

• Sharing awareness and understanding

• Transfer of knowledge, capability and experience

• Identify potential collaboration and partners for joint activities
