Why Taiwan?

By 2030 Taiwan will increase its overall wind power capacity (onshore and offshore) from 530mw to 5,200mw under an ambitious renewable energy plan unveiled by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). In these projects, offshore wind opportunities are expected to generate £14 billion of investment and producing 3 GW by 2025 and total offshore wind capacity will reach 4GW by 2030.  The business opportunities are significant for local and international supply chain companies. Along with offshore wind, wave and ocean energy are also included in this national programme with plans to set up development guidelines and a major pilot programme. Taiwan is also planning to set up a marine research centre with an international partner to develop this sector.  In addition, the central government has appointed Tainan City to establish a National Renewable Research Centre by end of 2017. Taiwan, therefore, presents as a very positive export opportunity for UK companies who have offshore wind experience and expertise.
