Offshore wind is an essential part of the UK’s energy mix and industrial strategy. Offshore wind already generates 5 per cent of the UK’s electricity and by 2021 this will to double to over 10 per cent. Building out the current pipeline of offshore wind projects could supply over a third of the UK’s power needs. The industry is investing over £18bn in projects over the next five years and offshore wind will be one of the lowest cost sources of new power in the 2020s.

For the past two years the offshore wind industry in the UK has come together to create Offshore Wind Week, led by Renewable UK with the main objective being to:

•  Promote the capabilities of the UK offshore wind supply chain from developer down to lower tier contractors and suppliers.

•  To highlight the importance of the sector within political circles

•  Demonstrate the value of the industry to the economy both now and in the future

•  To showcase the UK as an attractive inward investment proposition (supply chain offering, infrastructure, local support etc)

The North East England programme of events will take place Wednesday 8th through to Friday 10th November with the London based activities organised by Renewable UK taking place during this week and other dates in November

The focus of the North East of England programme of activities aim to:

•  Promote the region and the capabilities / companies in the sector

•  Target inward investment clients (larger companies (UK and International) who may look to set up / invest in region)

•  Showcase opportunities for the supply chain through inviting key buyers into the region and facilitating networking

•  Demonstrate to UK Government the importance of offshore wind in the region, both to the regional and UK economy

NOF Energy organises its annual OWNE (Offshore Wind North East) Conference and Exhibition to coincide with Offshore Wind Week. This event takes place on Thursday 9th November with a networking reception on the evening of Wednesday 8th November. Various site visits will take place in Tees Valley on Wednesday 8th November and Tyneside / Northumberland on Friday 10th November.

Please click here to access the full three day programme.

For more information about the activities from 6-7th November please contact RenewableUK directly.
